Choirs and Cantors

"Alleluia! My soul, give praise to the Lord; I will praise the Lord all my days,
Make music to my God while I live."  Psalm 146: 1-2

Music is integral to the worship experience at Sacred Heart, and active congregational participation in the singing is encouraged. A variety of musical styles are offered at weekend Masses. Those with musical gifts are invited to share their talent by volunteering for one of the parish groups!

Cantors

Cantors lead the musical worship at the traditional organ Masses at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, and evening Masses for holy days. If you have a strong singing voice, the ability to rehearse and learn music independently, and good speaking skills, please consider contributing your time and talent to this vital liturgical ministry. Rehearsals are held monthly throughout the year.

Cantors are used for the choir Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, but a commitment to joining the choir and attending weekly rehearsals is required (see below). Interested singers should contact Barbara Lambert at 410-429-4065 or barblambert1@verizon.net for an audition.

Traditional Choir

The adult traditional choir provides music leadership at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass from mid-September until mid-June, and at occasional special liturgies including Christmas Eve Midnight Mass and Holy Week. Rehearsals are held weekly on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

New members of any voice type – soprano, alto, tenor, bass – are always welcome. Previous choral experience and score-reading ability are not required, but potential members should possess basic musical skills. Anyone interested in the choir should contact Barbara Lambert, choir director.

Contemporary Choir

We are a choir made up of men, women and teens (13 years and above) whose ministry is to enhance the musical accompaniment of the 12:00 noon Mass. Members of our ensemble are singers and instrumentalists, singing and playing various instruments. We pray musically in all styles of musical prayer, including contemporary, traditional, gospel, chant and other genres.

We are always looking to add members to our music ministry. We provide music for the 12:00 Sunday Mass and we rehearse Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the music room. On Sunday mornings we warm up and go over the music for Mass. We would love to chat with you in hopes of you joining our group. Singers need not read music.
