Lk 9:28b-36
Abram’s faith is sealed with a covenant initiated by God (1), our light and our salvation (Ps). The transfiguration of Jesus (3) prefigures the transfiguration in glory to which we are called by our sharing in the paschal mystery – the dying and rising of Jesus (2).
For reflection: What “earthly things” preoccupy you these days?
From the Pastor’s Desk
As the Prophet Joel calls us on Ash Wednesday to rend our hearts with fasting, weeping and mourning, so we enter into this penitential season of Lent. The actions and attitudes we embrace are meant to allow God's creative Spirit to renew us, as we seek the path that leads us through the central mystery of our faith - the Cross and Resurrection. God calls us to be renewed in that primary relationship that we in turn may be equipped to respond to our brothers and sisters through the light of the Gospel. May our hearts and minds be opened anew to the mercy and compassion of God, and may we give thanks for the community of faith that surrounds, strengthens, and supports us with prayer and witness. May the "springtime" of this Lent produce a rich harvest in our lives.

Annual Women’s Retreat – Early This Year
The Annual Women’s Retreat for Sacred Heart at Loyola Retreat House in Faulkner, MD is scheduled for April 16-19, 2010. The theme of this year’s retreat is “Lord, Teach Us to Pray”, learning to pray as Jesus did. Why do we pray? How is it best done? In this retreat we look to Jesus for insight and instruction in this most fundamental aspect of our Christian lives. The wisdom and insight of Ignatian spirituality guide this retreat. Through it we are invited into an atmosphere of prayerful silence where we can open our hearts and come to know the power and importance of prayer, by observing its importance and practice in the life of Jesus.
The retreat begins at 6:45 PM on Friday and ends at 12:30 PM on Sunday. The cost of the retreat is $225.00 per person with $110.00 due at time of registration. Christian Formation and Evangelization
DID YOU KNOW that there are three Holy Oils (O.S. Olea Sancta)? The Oil of Catechumens, also known as the oil of the saints, is used during the prayer of exorcism and anointing when a catechumen is initiated, hence the name.
Chrism is used in Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders. Only chrism among the holy oils includes balsam, or balm, giving it an unmistakable fragrance.
Oil of the Sick is used in the Anointing of the Sick.
These oils are blessed by the Archbishop at the Cathedral on Monday of Holy Week and then distributed to individual parishes. Our oils are located directly across from the Baptismal Font.

BAOBAB BLAST: God’s Great Get-Together
What is a Baobab? A baobab is a gigantic tree found in Africa that creates its own ecosystem, and is one of the world’s oldest life forms. A baobab tree’s hollowed-out trunk, leaves, foliage, nectar, fruit, and bark provide basic life needs for many different creatures. The baobab tree serves as a meeting place for many people to gather, discuss, and share stories. BAOBAB BLAST VBS 2010 is an open invitation to be a part of God’s Great Get-Together. Set under the impressive baobab tree, kids will have the opportunity to hear God’s Word, be amazed at God’s wildlife creations, and be a part of a supportive community. This will be a life-changing experience for all kids (ages 3 through grade 4) as they gather together as a community and grow in faith.
During VBS 2010, kids will explore connections with God, family, friends, and others around the world. All the fun will begin Monday, June 21 and run through Friday, June 25 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Check the church bulletin for registration information and plan to have your child “sit under the impressive baobab tree!” Many adult volunteers are needed to assist us in planning, leading, and supporting this awesome adventure for our parish children. Please consider helping us. To volunteer, telephone Sister Cecilia at 410-833-8515 or e-mail Jeff at jment@shgparish.org.

Service and Justice
Our Daily Bread
Please take home a casserole pan or two with you this weekend and return the finished product this Tuesday evening,February 23rd or Wednesday morning,February 24th. The pans and recipes are located by the entrances of the church.
Put your casserole in a plastic grocery store shopping bag and try to freeze or refrigerate it before you drop it off. Both of these actions help to prevent spillage during delivery to Our Daily Bread. Thanks!
If you don’t have time to make a casserole, please consider donating dry goods such as: canned vegetables/fruit, coffee, tea, sugar, peanut butter and jelly, powdered drink mixes, and non-food kitchen items such as paper cups, paper and plastic sandwich bags, and kitchen cleaning materials.
Our volunteers will be standing by at the rear of the school cafeteria this Tuesday eveningFebruary 23rd, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and again on Wednesday morning,February 24thfrom 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM to collect your casseroles and dry goods donations.
If you have any questions, please contact Colin McGonigal at 443-695-3592.
St. Vincent de Paul
As one of our Lenten activities, St. Vincent de Paul will again sponsor Easter Giving Trees for collection of specific nutritious, non-perishable foods and Food Lion gift cards for our sister-parish in Appalachia. Because of poverty and unemployment, many people seek help from the St. Therese Neighborhood Aid Program. Whereas food pantries in our area have access to the Maryland Food Bank, are recipients of food drives by churches, scouts and businesses, and receive generous support from local grocery stores, St Therese is without such resources, and they really need our help. Food Lion gift cards enable the volunteers who run Neighbors Aid to restock the shelves with essential items when donated food runs out.
Please take one or more eggs from the tree, purchase, and return the items placing them in designated boxes in the Gathering Area or outside the side entrance to the church near the Music Room.
Food Lion Gift Cards: Sacred Heart School’s Scrip Program will have gift cards available after weekend Masses in Room 105. All you need to do is fill out an order form for “SVDP” Food Lion in the amount of your donation, and your donation will be collected and given to St. Therese. Gift cards not purchased through the Scrip Program may be placed in an envelope marked “SVDP” and handed in with the offertory collection.
Items for St. Therese will be collected: Feb 27-28, March 6-7, March 13-14, and March 20-21.
