Scripture Readings March 7, 2010
Ex 3:1-8a, 13-15, 1 Cor 10:1-6,10-12, Lk 13:1-9
From the burning bush, Moses is called by God to lead his people out of slavery into freedom (1,Ps). The parable of the fig tree speaks, on the one hand, of God’s patience, but, on the other, of the urgency of the call to conversion (3). Like the Hebrews of old, we too have failed to heed God’s call, thinking ourselves to be self- righteous (2).
For reflection: When has God given you another chance?

Christian Formation and Evangelization
DID YOU KNOW what the Rite of Election is? This RCIA rite was celebrated last Sunday at the Cathedral by Archbishop O’Brien. It begins the final more intense period of preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation. The Church, based on the testimony of catechists and the reaffirmation of the catechumens and candidates, judges them ready to move forward to the Sacraments of Initiation.
It is called election because the acceptance by the Church is founded on the election of God in whose name the Church acts.
Last Saturday at the 4:00 PM Mass our parish community sent 11 catechumens and 12 candidates to the Cathedral.
Please continue to keep our “Elect” in your prayers.

BAOBAB BLAST: God’s Great Get-Together
What is a Baobab? A baobab is a gigantic tree found in Africa that creates its own ecosystem, and is one of the world’s oldest life forms. A baobab tree’s hollowed-out trunk, leaves, foliage, nectar, fruit, and bark provide basic life needs for many different creatures. The baobab tree serves as a meeting place for many people to gather, discuss, and share stories. BAOBAB BLAST VBS 2010 is an open invitation to be a part of God’s Great Get-Together. Set under the impressive baobab tree, kids will have the opportunity to hear God’s Word, be amazed at God’s wildlife creations, and be a part of a supportive community. This will be a life-changing experience for all kids (ages 3 through grade 4) when they gather together as a community and grow in faith.
During VBS 2010, kids will explore connections with God, family, friends, and others around the world. All the fun will begin Monday, June 21 and run through Friday, June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Check the church bulletin for registration information and plan to have your child “sit under the impressive baobab tree!” Many adult volunteers are needed to assist us in planning, leading, and supporting this awesome adventure for our parish children. Please consider helping us. To volunteer, telephone Sister Cecilia at 410-833-8515 or e-mail Jeff at jment@shgparish.org.

Service and Justice
Thank You: My Sister’s Place Women’s Center
Thank you for your generous donation of Christmas gifts! Your gift assures the promise of a brighter future to women and their children who are homeless and without resources in our communities.
We assisted women and children with daytime shelter, showers, laundry services, breakfast, dinner, referrals to overnight shelter, case management, and life skills workshops to name a few. Women that come to My Sister’s Place are often women with children, mentally ill, physically ill, poor, homeless, unemployed, underemployed, hungry, and in need of assistance and resources.
Again, thank you for your contributions to My Sister’s Place Women’s Center.
St. Vincent de Paul
As one of our Lenten activities, St. Vincent de Paul will again sponsor Easter Giving Trees for collection of specific nutritious, non-perishable foods and Food Lion gift cards for our sister-parish in Appalachia. Because of poverty and unemployment, many people seek help from the St. Therese Neighborhood Aid Program. Whereas food pantries in our area have access to the Maryland Food Bank, are recipients of food drives by churches, scouts and businesses, and receive generous support from local grocery stores, St Therese is without such resources, and they really need our help. Food Lion gift cards enable the volunteers who run Neighbors Aid to restock the shelves with essential items when donated food runs out.
Please take one or more eggs from the tree, purchase, and return the items placing them in designated boxes in the Gathering Area or outside the side entrance to the church near the Music Room.
Food Lion Gift Cards: Sacred Heart School’s Scrip Program will have gift cards available after weekend Masses in Room 105. All you need to do is fill out an order form for “SVDP” Food Lion in the amount of your donation, and your donation will be collected and given to St. Therese. Gift cards not purchased through the Scrip Program may be placed in an envelope marked “SVDP” and handed in with the offertory collection.
Items for St. Therese will be collected: Feb 27-28, March 6-7, March 13-14, and March 20-21.
