Scripture Readings July 11, 2010
Dt 30:10-14, Col 1:15-20, Lk 10:25-37
The law of the Lord (Ps/b), the great commandment of love is not something “mysterious” or “remote.” Indeed, it is “very near” to us (1). Yet how difficult it is to fulfill, being neighbor to whoever is in need (3). But if we seek God (Ps/a), we must “go ahead and do the same” (3) for we have been created in, for, and through Christ (2).
For reflection: What thoughts run through your mind when you see a person standing outside a broken down car on the road?
Office Closed
The Parish Center Offices will be closed Monday, July 5th, in observance of Independence Day. The Office will reopen on Tuesday, July 6th, at 8:30 AM.
From the Pastor’s Desk
We were able to deposit another $50,000 in our Endowment Fund, bringing the total in the fund to $485,971. Thank you for using your “Fulfilling the Vision” envelopes for this purpose. By building this fund for the future, the parish will be able to assist future generations to enjoy the blessings of this parish community. The principal of this fund will remain, with only the interest being used to help with programming and ministry. As previous generations literally built the school and churches for us, so may we be as gracious to those who will follow us here.
Change in Mass Schedule July 21 & 22
Msgr. Aiken and Fr. Lanoue will be attending a conference during the week of 19 July. Because of this, we will reverse the times for the Masses and Communion Services for this week only. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Christian Formation and Evangelization
DO YOU KNOW why we have Hospitality Ministers (greeters) at Mass? Hospitality is not a matter of idle chit chat. Our Hospitality Ministers remind us that when we greet each other before Mass we recognize Christ in one another, we share Christ’s love with each other, we show our willingness to be part of the Body of Christ.
The goal of the Eucharist is to transform us into the Body of Christ. This is only possible if we are willing to be a part of that Body.
We thank our Greeters who welcome us every week as we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Supper.
Adult Confirmation
Confirmation is a requirement to be a godparent or a sponsor for Confirmation. If you are over 18 and have never been confirmed, please contact Sister Jude (410-833-1696; srjude@shgparish.org) for more information.
The next adult confirmation is October 24, 2010 at 2 pm in the Basilica of the National Shrine.
Monsignor Aiken
We remember Monsignor’s Fortieth Anniversary as a priest and we will offer our prayers for him in gratitude for his service not only to the Church but to Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart Families whose last names begin with “D” will pray especially for Monsignor Aiken this week.
Prayer for Monsignor Aiken
Good and gracious God, hear our prayers for Monsignor Aiken, your Priest and our Pastor, Your Servant and our Shepherd.
Bless him for his years of service in the priesthood and for his loving example of self-sacrifice and service.
May his selfless ministry in Christ continue to be inspiring, fruitful, worthy and pleasing to You, O Lord.
We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Bibles
Thanks to Catholic Scripture Study we were able to place a Bible in every pew in the Little Church. At present 5 Bibles are missing. We ask that these Bibles be left in the pews so that all folks may use them.
We had intended to begin putting Bibles in the Main Church but first we must replace the missing ones.
Thanks to Catholic Scripture Study for spreading the Word of God!

2010-2011 Elementary Religious Education Classes
Children in pre-school through grade 8 who do not attend Sacred Heart School should be registered in our Religious Education program. Classes run from September until early May each year. Two years of preparation are required for receiving the sacraments of Penance and Eucharist; these two sacraments usually take place in second grade. In order to sufficiently know their Faith, children should complete eight years in a Religious Education program before moving into the high-school Confirmation program.
Program information and registration forms are in the Kiosk, the parish office, and at the Religious Education web site (www.shgparish.org/images/rel-ed.htm). Please complete and return the registration forms to the Religious Education Office as soon as possible.
