Scripture Readings July 25, 2010
Gn 18:20-32, Col 2:12-14, Lk 11:1-13
In bargaining with God, Abraham demonstrates a real persistence in prayer (1). Jesus invites us to persist in prayer as well, to “ask…seek…knock” (3). May our prayer open us to God’s will, and so build up his strength with us (Ps). In baptism, we have died with Christ, and have been raised to life with him (2).
For reflection: For whom or for what are you praying these days?
From the Pastor’s Desk
This summer, we have been working on the lower corridor of the school to make it handicapped accessible by removing the 4 steps and replacing them with a ramp. The ramp also necessitated the relocation of 2 classroom doors. Asbestos abatement was successfully completed from the removal of the old floor tiles and from sections of the glazed block wall that needed to be cut for the new door openings. New wall tiling, painting, recarpeting and final finishes should be completed within the next few weeks. A handicapped ramp is also being installed on the outside of the building to accommodate persons entering Room 105 by the Mother Seton Statue.
Thank you for your patience during this phase of construction.
Change in Mass Schedule July 21 & 22
Msgr. Aiken and Fr. Lanoue will be attending a conference during the week of 19 July. Because of this, we will reverse the times for the Masses and Communion Services for this week only. Wednesday, 21 July, Mass will be at 7:00 AM and there will be a Communion Service at 9:00 AM. Thursday, 22 July, Mass will be at 9:00 AM and there will be a Communion Service at 7:00 AM. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Welcome to the Newly Baptized

Welcome Maryknoll Missionary Fr. Kevin Hanlon
We welcome Father Kevin Hanlon, a missionary from the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, who will speak at all the Masses today. Maryknoll is a popular name for the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, which was founded nearly 100 years ago to follow Christ’s command to preach the Gospel to all the nations. They serve principally among the poor in places where the Church is unknown or in great need.
Thank you from The Little Sisters of the Poor
The love and support you gave the Little Sisters of the Poor during their visit on June 18, 2010 was a sign of your genuine charity. The collection amounted to $6,492.96. Your gifts are truly a sign of God’s loving and caring Providence, which will help us to provide the best possible care for the many elderly in need who come to make their home with us. We promise you our daily prayers for all of your many intentions.
Mass for Travelers
If you will be traveling this summer, you can find the location and times of Masses anywhere in the country by calling: 410-676-6000 or by visiting the web site: www.masstimes.org.
Reminder-Dressing for Church
As the weather gets warmer, please make an effort to dress modestly when coming to church. Formal dress is certainly not expected, but out of respect for the Blessed Sacrament, for fellow worshippers and reverence for our sacred space, please refrain from wearing overly casual dress, such as beach attire, halter-tops, and short shorts.

We would like to invite anyone interested in singing or playing an instrument to join us this summer. Rehearsal is at 11:15 AM in the Music Room, for the Noon Mass. For information call Carole Truitt at 410-549-2147.

Christian Formation and Evangelization
DO YOU KNOW that in the early Church only adults were baptized? At a fairly early date, baptism became associated with the annual Easter Vigil.
Surviving records from these days tell us that in many places adults were tested for up to three years while they were instructed and supported in their withdrawal from pagan practices and loyalties, and taught to live a new way. Only then were they admitted to candidacy for baptism.
Their final intense preparation came during Lent when they received intense instruction, submitted to exorcisms and other special rituals and were baptized during the night of the Easter Vigil. This period of preparation leading to initiation at the Easter Vigil was the beginnings of the catechumenate.
Adult Confirmation
Confirmation is a requirement to be a godparent or a sponsor for Confirmation. If you are over 18 and have never been confirmed, please contact Sister Jude (410-833-1696; srjude@shgparish.org) for more information.
The next adult confirmation is October 24, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Basilica of the National Shrine.
Monsignor Aiken
We remember Monsignor’s Fortieth Anniversary as a priest and we will offer our prayers for him in gratitude for his service not only to the Church but to Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart Families whose last names begin with “F” will pray especially for Monsignor Aiken this week.
Prayer for Monsignor Aiken
Good and gracious God, hear our prayers for Monsignor Aiken, your Priest and our Pastor, Your Servant and our Shepherd.
Bless him for his years of service in the priesthood and for his loving example of self-sacrifice and service.
May his selfless ministry in Christ continue to be inspiring, fruitful, worthy and pleasing to You, O Lord.
We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Two years of preparation are required for receiving the sacraments of Penance and Eucharist; these two sacraments usually take place in second grade. In order to sufficiently know their Faith, children should complete eight years in a Religious Education program before moving into the high-school Confirmation program.
Program information and registration forms are in the Kiosk, the parish office, and at the Religious Education web site (www.shgparish.org/images/rel-ed.htm). Please complete and return the registration forms to the Religious Education Office (in the Parish Center).
